The Center for Academic Excellence at Appalachian State University (ASU) organizes the one-day online event ‘2018 Free-Learning Conference’ on Friday, July 20, 2018. During this event, faculty, staff, and instructional technologist from both ASU and other Universities will explore the latest technology in higher education and how to utilize these services to enhance teaching and Learning.

The online sessions focus on three broad topic areas:

  • Emerging technologiesand social media,
  • Using technology to enhance student engagement and learning
  • Online learning environments
  • Toolsfor effective teaching and learning with technology

Jim Ptaszynski, the Vice President for Digital Learning at the University of North Carolina will deliver a keynote on the topic of change management, advocating for a shift towards transformational rather than evolutionary change: “Most of our “digital learning” efforts begin their life firmly rooted in the analogue classroom and therefore, drag most of the constraints of the physical classroom into the digital world”, Ptaszynski states in the abstract.

I will present design thinking workshop ideas and materials in the 9:45 to 10:45 time slot, and look forward to seeing many of you online!
