Special interest groups (SIG) focus on a shared interest or topic of conference participants. The idea is to advance a specific area of knowledge through discussion and collaboration during, but also between our annual conferences.
AACE supports the creation of SIG’s by providing meeting and presentation time slots and organizing pre-conference workshops for these SIG’s. If you and your colleagues would like to establish a SIG for a shared interest, please contact us for submission instructions.

E-Learning Trends and Innovations SIG (TREND)

A community of researchers, designers, educators, and practitioners who share a collaborative focus on creating and exploring contemporary advances in learning technologies that are shaping education for today’s and tomorrow’s learners.

Members of the ELTI SIG are those interested in discussing, constructing, and leading the path toward a collective research-based exploration of various emerging educational trends and technology innovations (e.g., mobile learning, open education, MOOCs, collaborative technologies, social media, digital course resources, adventure learning, learning analytics, informal and nontraditional learning, etc.).

Designing, Developing, and Assessing E-Learning SIG (DESIGN)

Making the complex clear, turning difficult into intriguing, raising intellectual curiosity, supporting creative problem solving, posing authentic challenges, building effective scaffolds – contemporary e-learning goes beyond the latest tools and technologies. This SIG aims to bring together researchers and practitioners to debate and collaborate on a variety of instructional design themes.

The SIG will promote activities for future conferences, including suggestions for invited speakers and symposia. It provides a marketplace for joint research projects and offers publications opportunities in form of special issues and edited volumes.

Sustainable Learning Technologies (SLT)

Objectives of the SIG

Sustainable Learning Technologies:

• to enable the powerful use of extant and emerging technologies for enabling lifelong learning and continuing professional development.

• to support the development of critical and creative thinking digital tools to leverage knowledge transfer.

• to enhance the fabric and continuity of knowledge rich communities through continuous development and advancement.

• that allow people to network, interact, learn about and from each other and create social and emotional bonds.

The Proposed Activities of the SLT SIG

This SIG will endeavor to find SLT solutions for the use of technologies and tools linked to educational applications. The technologies include developing SMART generic thinking tools for identifying, planning, organizing, and implementing projects, and evaluating their overall sustainable impact. These applications will be discussed and explored through this SIG using online social networking tools and in face-to-face meetings.

A special emphasis will be given towards prioritizing learning and teaching to become more engaging and sustainable with the help of learning and knowledge technologies. The SIG will seek funding for collaborative research and development work with academic, public, private and international organizations including partners from industry. SLT also intends to publish books and special issues of journals with its members linked to the core theme of SLT as a means of delivering continuing professional development. In addition, the SIG will also organize AACE workshops, seminars, symposia and panel discussions as opportunities arise and based upon the demands and interests of its members and wider community.
