Journal of Interactive Learning Research (JILR) formerly Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education (JAIED) Information for Authors Potential authors should examine recent issues of the Journal to assess the type of material covered and the presentation style and should also consult the document on the scope and standards of JILR. Manuscripts should conform to the APA style as specified in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association available from APA, 1200 Seventeenth Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20036 USA. Submission of a manuscript represents certification by the author that the article is not being considered nor has been published elsewhere. Format The original and 4 copies of each manuscript should be submitted, including figures and tables. Manuscripts should be typed double-spaced on 8.5 x 11 inch or A4 size bond paper with a minimum 1.25 inch or 3 cm. left margin. In general, articles should not exceed 10000 words (with figures considered equivalent to the number of words possible in the space occupied). Articles should be subdivided into unnumbered sections and sub-sections using short, meaningful subheads. A title sheet should precede the first page of the article and give the title of the article, name of author(s), institutional mailing address (including department, institution, city, state, code, and country), or other affiliation. Include the telephone and fax numbers and e-mail address of the contact author. Number each page at the top. Disk Format If the paper is accepted and the final version of the manuscript is prepared on a Macintosh or IBM compatible personal computer, we prefer that a disk be sent with files in both the word processor used and the pure text (ASCII) file formats in addition to a hard copy. The word processor formats of Microsoft Word and WordPerfect are preferred. Please indicate the format on the disk. Receipt of a file will decrease both the chance of error and publication time. Abstract An informative, comprehensive abstract of 75 to 200 words must accompany the manuscript. This abstract should succinctly summarize the major points of the paper, and the author's summary and/or conclusions. Citations Examples of references cited within the text of articles are as follows: (Williams, Allen, & Jones, 1978) or (Moore, 1990; Smith, 1991) or Terrell (1977). Quotations Quoted material of more than two lines should be set in a narrower width than the remainder of the text but continue to double space. At the close of the quotation, give the complete source including page numbers. Where necessary, it is the authors responsibility to obtain written permission from the copyright holders to quote or reproduce material from another publication. Tables and Figures All tables and figures must be submitted in camera-ready (publication quality) form. Tables and figures should be prepared on separate sheets at the end of the running text with their locations indicated in the text, i.e., Insert Figure 1 here. Number and type captions at the top of each table and bottom of each figure. Photographs are welcome and should be black-and-white glossy prints. Equations Type carefully all such material. Use separate lines for and center each equation. If a reference is needed in the text, refer to it as Equation 1, etc. Use the solidus (/) for simple fractions to save vertical space. Program Listings Program listings should be avoided unless they are essential and add significantly to the article. Authors may wish to note in the article that programs are available from the author at a nominal cost. Credits and Acknowledgments Financial support for work reported or a grant under which a study was made should be noted just prior to the Acknowledgments. Acknowledgments or appreciation to individuals for assistance with the manuscript or with the material reported should be included in the Acknowledgment at the end of the article. References Authors are responsible for checking the accuracy of all references and that all references cited in the text also appear in the Reference section. All references should be in alphabetical order by author (unnumbered), as shown below. Use the following style when referencing a book or an article in a periodical: O'Shea, T., & Self, J. A. (1983). Learning and Teaching with Computers: Artificial Intelligence in Education. Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall. Beasley, R.E. & Vila, J.A. (1992). The identification of navigation patterns in a multimedia environment: A case study. Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia, 1, 209-222. Reprints Upon publication, each author will receive a complimentary copy of the journal issue in which the article appears and an article reprint order form.
