Computer Science Education
Research Special Issue JCMST will devote a special issue to Computer Science Education Research on the general theme of "Research through Practice." The aim of this special issue is to assemble exemplary research papers that are grounded in teaching and learning experiences in order to reflect on the theoretical foundations of Computer Science education, as well as to extend thinking about practice. We aim to collect papers that illustrate a range of perspectives, including international or multi-cultural perspectives, as well as perspectives from any level of education, from primary through university and graduate study. Of particular interest are: Papers should present documented research results or first-class analysis and contributions to theory. Papers should set the context for the work in terms of prior work, articulate the theoretical basis of the research, provide clear description of the methodology used (whether qualitative or quantitative), present clearly data that have been collected in a systematic manner, and tie any conclusions to evidence presented. They should also provide evidence of originality and make significant contributions to the research literature. Papers that are purely descriptive of classroom experience or which are supported only by unevaluated student comment will not be considered for the special issue. JCMST publishes articles about the use of computers in mathematics, science and computer science learning and teaching in contexts ranging from pre-school through graduate education, including teacher education and informal education. The Editors of JCMST aim to encourage dialogue and reflection within and across cognate disciplines by publishing articles which combine evidence and experience with appropriate analysis to examine issues surrounding the use of computers in learning and teaching. Additionally JCMST has an interest in articles which emphasize the role of computers in curriculum reform. Our editorial view is that the best educational research synthesizes theoretical analysis, classroom practice and empirical investigation. We recognize that research can take place in a variety of formal and informal settings, including classroom and laboratory. We recognize that research can also be conducted according to a variety of learning, teaching, and methodological paradigms. An important goal of JCMST is to publish material that is accessible to educational practitioners and which has the potential to inform and influence practice, even though the realization of that potential may not be immediate. Co-editors of this special issue are: MANUSCRIPTS: IMPORTANT DATES: Authors should make note of the limited time for revisions. Due to the short revision time, papers should be submitted in complete form and will be accepted subject to minor revisions. |
