Pre-Conference Mini-Course:

Using Metadata to Facilitate Educational Resource
Discovery and Reuse

Sunday, October 24 * 8:30 AM - 5 PM

Cost: $155 (includes course, lunch, & refreshment breaks)

In the recent past, groups like the IEEE LTSC, ARIADNE, the IMS Project, and various digital libraries throughout the world have been concerned with one issue: how to better facilitate the discovery and reuse of educational resources. A "metadata system" has been proposed as one solution. Now that educational resource metadata specifications are maturing, there is work to be done in implementing compliant solutions and improving online education.

This working meeting will feature updates by developers of the above metadata specifications, as well as by those working on implementations and supporting theory. Takeaways will include an updated status of the field, an implementation and theory TODO list, and a list of contacts with whom collaborative work may be done. Cross-pollination and the formation of inter-organizational collaborative groups will be encouraged.

Audience: Implementors and users of educational resource metadata systems including tool vendors, digital librarians, content producers, instructional designers, software developers, project managers, and anyone else interested in a compact, high-level overview of current developments.
