The XML Revolution
Dr. Robert J. Glushko, Veo Systems, Inc., USA

XML, the Extensible Markup Language recently developed by the World Wide Web Consortium, is rapidly taking hold as the foundation of "document-based computing" through which the Web will become "self-descriptive" or "smart enough" to support applications that are infeasible given the limitations of HTML. XML will enable client-side processing, applications of intelligent agents, and automated integration of Internet services -- which taken together will revolutionize the Internet, especially for commerce.

glushko.jpg (71164 bytes)Dr. Robert J. Glushko is a tecnology expert and entrepreneur in information management and online publishing with two decades of experience in R&D, consulting, and product management.

He is currently the Director, Information Engineering at Veo Systems (formerly CNgroup), a Silicon Valley start-up building software for "the next generation of open Internet commerce" and is the Program Manager for eCoNet, a four-company multi-million dollar joint venture partly funded by an Advanced Technology Program award from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Prior to joining Veo Systems, he was a co-founder and the Chief Scientist at Passage Systems, a consulting and systems integration firm specializing in SGML-based publishing. He previously worked at Bell Laboratories and at the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie-Mellon University. He has a B.A. from Stanford, an M.S. (software engineering) from the Wang Institute, and Ph.D. (cognitive psychology) from the University of California, San Diego.
