The LearnShare Consortium - A Model for the Future

LearnShare is a consortium of non-competing companies who share training expertise and innovative practices. Evolving from CEO Rick Corry’s concept of a collaborative approach to training. LearnShare combines the best training practices and programs of the partners with leading-edge distance learning technology. The result provides LearnShare members electronic access to proven training materials and enables them to participate in and benefit from research and development opportunities in multi-media and distance learning practices. LearnShare’s members include Owens Corning, General Motors, Motorola, 3M, Deere & Company, Reynolds Metals, Aeroquip-Vickers, Pilkington, Owens-Illinois, Northwest Airlines and Warner-Lambert. LearnShare also includes three university partners: Arizona State, Fairleigh Dickinson and Ohio State.

Learning Objectives

Participants will learn:

  • how multi-media applications can be used in conjunction with distance-learning methods to deliver tailored, on-demand training
  • how LearnShare has changed the corporate approach to the purchase and use of interactive training materials
  • the advantages of a collaborative approach to training delivery and the benefits member organizations derive from the relationship
  • how LearnShare’s approach to interactive training has initiated a trend in the industry toward collaboration

 

Rick Corry is the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of LearnShare, a consortium of non-competing companies who share their training expertise and innovative practices. Prior to establishing LearnShare in 1996, Rick headed up Owens Corning’s Performance University at Owens Corning’s World Headquarters in Toledo, Ohio. Performance University is a system of skill enhancement programs that are delivered with a combination of technology and hands-on modules to all levels of sales and sales management.

Rick’s background in sales started in field sales with Owens Corning in Elkhart, Indiana He also worked in sales and sales management in Houston, Texas, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Rick was named National Sales Builder several times and has received numerous awards for sales excellence. Rick’s background in sales and training and his desire to maximize Owens Corning’s training and research output directly contributed to the birth of LearnShare and its evolution as a leading-edge training initiative.

The LearnShare Consortium has been featured in articles in Training, Training & Development, Human Resource Executive, Corporate University Review, Business Week, the Associated Press, and the Tom Peter’s publication, Fast Forward.
