Secure Transactional Systems on the World Wide Web
Ir. Stijn Bijnens, NetVision, Belgium

Monday, Nov. 9th, 1:30-2:30 PM

Over the past few years, websites have evolved from static informational sites to dynamic knowledge based sites and now they are migrating to transactional web sites.

This talk will give an overview of the requirements of secure transactional-based websites and the possible solutions. Seen the need for security operations at the application layer and not only at the session layer, the current SSL security is only one part of the solution. Examples that will be illustrated :

  • a digital signature on a per transaction base to fit into a legal framework

  • support for multiple authentication devices such as chipcards with different technologies (RSA or DES based electronic purses) and biometric authentication techniques.

The talk will give a structured overview of the evolving standards in this area.

Finally, Mr. Bijnens will present a case study of an Internet Banking transactional system of a large European Bank.

Stijn Bijnens is co-founder and CEO of NetVision (http://www.netvision.be), one of the leading Internet security companies in Europe. NetVision provides solutions for Internet Banking, online trading and electronic payment systems. In October 1996, Stijn Bijnens co-founded NetVision's first subsidiary called BelSign - the leading Internet certification Authority in Europe. (http://www.belsign.com).
