Abstract:
This workshop will give you both the skills and the pedagogical knowledge to incorporate video from multiple sources, including self-filmed video, YouTube video and video created from images in Photostory 3 into engaging instructional videos that can be created by high school students, college students, or teachers to improve academic instruction. Participants will learn techniques for using concept maps as transitioning devices within the video, guiding and leading the cognitive schema visually. Also covered will be techniques for using videos in web based timelines and Google Maps
Objectives:
Participants will learn:
- How to use Windows Movie Maker 2 to construct Blended videos
- How to download YouTube videos from multiple sources, and insert these videos into moviemaker for editing.
- How to create movies from images using Photostory 3.
- Best practices for having students create instructional videos filming themselves.
- How to use concept maps created in Bubbl.us or cmap tools as transitioning devices in a video. This will include the proper use of motion in the cmap transition.
- How to insert video into online timelines and Google Maps.

1. Using Windows Movie Maker 2 to construct Blended videos
2. Leveraging YouTube videos for instruction
3. Downloading and editing YouTube videos
4. Creating movies from images using Photostory 3.
5. Best practices for students: Camera techniques for the content area class
6. Creating concept map transition mini-movies, and where to use them
7. Inserting video into online timelines
8. Inserting video into Google Maps
Prerequisites:
Participants should be completely familiar with how to open files and store them in a different location. Internet search skills and a familiarity with YouTube a plus. While those who have used Movie Maker 2 or other video editing software before will be more comfortable, beginning users will be supported as well.
A prize drawing for Abobe Premeire and Photoshop Elements 7.0 will
occur at the end of the workshop.

Instructor Qualifications:
Dr. Geary teaches Multimedia, Computers in the Classroom, Human Growth and Children's Literature at Dakota State University. This workshop represents an extension of an activity done in Human Growth that has students creating a blended term movie instead of a blended term paper. The techniques used will be applicable to most content area classes.
