NASA Quest: Connecting Classrooms to NASA People
Marc Siegel
National Air and Space Administration, USA
The ability to place students in contact with scientists and other
working professionals is an often cited benefit of widespread classroom connectivity. The current free-for-all environment
begins to break down as demand for experts explodes and as the novelty of writing to students begins to wear off for professionals.
NASA Quest provides one ready-made solution.
NASA people have great jobs and are eager to share their thrills with
students. Using the Internet, NASA Quest connects classrooms with these NASA folks. Interactive events like chats, email question/answer and live
streaming video programs help kids feel like they've actually met (not just
read about) the enthusiastic experts and role models.
Over the past year, NASA went online with people who fly the Space Shuttle
and the International Space Station, research life in space, push the envelope
in aeronautics, explore Mars, etc. Over the next year we will do much more.
Come learn about it!
