The purpose of this presentation is to examine international elearning case studies and discuss lessons learned, as they relate to the design, development, and adoption of elearning innovations. Our work is guided by a social justice framework which aims to take advantage of ICT to promote equality and social justice. Our method is informed by design thinking, emphasizing the use of learning designs to solve problems and matching the affordances of technology with organizations' needs in order to develop authentic elearning activities. Issues around the adoption of elearning and the participatory framework for the preparation of elearning programs will be critically examined and discussed. Case studies from a variety of contexts will be presented to illustrate the main arguments and provide opportunities for discussion.
Charalambos Vrasidas is co-founder and Executive Director of CARDET (www.cardet.org), a non-profit research and development center based in Cyprus with partners around the world. He is also Associate Professor of Learning Technologies and Innovation at the University of Nicosia. He serves on the Executive Committee of the International Council for Educational Media and he is Editor-in-Chief for the journal Educational Media International. He has published 6 books and more than 100 articles in journals and edited volumes. A former school teacher and Fulbright scholar, he holds a PhD from Arizona State University in Educational Media and Computers. An innovator, learner, and social entrepreneur, Charalambos has developed and evaluated e-learning projects in more than 20 countries.
