Learning online has rapidly transitioned from the highly solitary activity available in 1996 when this conference was founded. Back them occasional asynchronous communication was possible. Today learners collaborate and interact from anywhere in myriad ways. Elearning has new flavors taking us from simple asynchronous email, electronic page turning and online forums to synchronous, immersive telepresence sessions which start to mirror in-presence learning. This talk starts with an examination of early asynchronous learning and transports you through a range of tools available today that make learning more inviting, more authentic, more engaging, and more accessible to learners. Along the way you will be introduced to frameworks to help plan for this new and exciting learning world of the future. These frameworks offer seamless transitions for students both in higher education and in the workplace. And much of this new blended experience is possible today. Take this opportunity to see it, taste it, then share these opportunities with others in your organization or institution.
