Symposium
Description:
In recent
years, there has been an explosion of interest in reusable
multimedia components for learning, referred to as
"learning objects." The use of learning objects
promises to increase the effectiveness of learning by
making content more readily available, by reducing the cost and
effort of producing quality content, and by allowing content to
be more easily shared. However, the development and deployment
of learning objects also presents new challenges to designers of
instruction and technology alike. This symposium will explore the benefits and challenges
of learning objects.
Symposium
topics related to learning objects included:
-
Learning
object repositories
-
instructional
design using learning objects
-
Automatic
generation of metadata
-
Flexible
access to learning objects
-
Interoperable
learning objects
-
Empirical
analysis of learning object development and deployment
-
Aggregation
and disaggregation of learning objects
-
Designing
learning objects for reuse
-
Theoretical
frameworks for learning objects
-
Cross-cultural
learning objects
-
Critiques
of the learning object approach
