Invited Speaker

Toward Open & Connected Learning: Transforming Pedagogy through Social Networking & New Digital Affordances

Alec Couros - Professor of Educational Technology and Media, University of Regina, Canada

Abstract:

This presentation draws from research & practical experience gained through the development of open undergraduate and graduate courses focused on social media in teaching & learning. Through the development of 'open teaching' strategies,  learning environments can become a vibrant mixture of credit and non-credit students; individuals working together from locations around the world in an environment of sharing, transparency, and collaboration. The session facilitator will lead participants through a rationale and discussion of open pedagogical strategies, discuss what was learned through the 'open teaching' experience, and will assist individuals in understanding the benefits of and processes involved in becoming an open educator.
