The Universal Web Accessibility
Symposium will address the legal and technical requirements for
universal accessibility to the Internet. Legal mandates for
universal accessibility and the subsequent requirements will be
examined. Various resources used to verify that standards for
web accessibility have been met will be compared.
Experts will further discuss the growing trend to
interweave Web design for aging adults (the fastest-growing
demographic group using the web) and physically challenged
individuals.
The Symposium participants will
share ideas about future hopes, anticipated changes, and
technical challenges related to Internet accessibility. The
expected outcome is that computer professionals, educators, and
other information originators will clarify their
responsibilities in this area.
Also the Symposium will help to
provide effective techniques for participants to readily meet
federal mandates concerning current federal web sites or other
sites attempting to obtain federal funds.
This exciting Symposium is made
possible by the partnership of four entities:
- Association for the
Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE)
- Southwest Texas State
University College of Health Professions (SWT)
- HTML Writers Guild
- The Institute for Quality
Improvement In Long Term Health Care, at Southwest Texas State
University (Institute).
AACE is offering this Symposium
on Oct. 31, 2000 in connection with WebNet 2000—World
Conference on the WWW and Internet (San Antonio, Texas; Oct.
30-Nov. 4), which is emphasizing the new medical applications
stream.
The content of the conference
will include:
- Resources to make information
originator's job responsibilities clearer
- Legal mandates for universal
accessibility

accessibility
- Web accommodations for Seniors
and physically challenged individuals
The legal thread of the Symposium
will be lead by Dr. Oren Renick, a member of the graduate
faculty in Health Administration at SWT , a fellow in the
American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of the
