Like
its symbol, the legendary phoenix of Egyptian mythology, Atlanta
rose from the ashes with renewed strength and beauty. Following
the destruction during the
Civil War, Atlanta became the mecca of the new South, and today,
is an exciting international city. It has more restaurants,
professional sports teams, entertainment venues and cultural
attractions than any other city in the Southeast. Many of these
attractions are within 10 minutes of downtown and almost all are
accessible via MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Transit Authority).
Diverse
restaurants feature cuisine from around the globe prepared by
world-renowned chefs and served in an endless array of ambience
and décor.
Culture
is prominent in Atlanta. It is home to world-class museums
including the High Museum of Art, SciTrek - the science and
technology museum, and Fernbank Museum of Natural History.
Atlanta is also home to many performing arts theaters such as
the Alliance Theatre, The Fox Theatre, Rialto Theatre for
Performing Arts and Woodruff Arts Center.
Great
Shopping Destination
Atlanta
is the premiere shopping destination of the Southeast -
featuring brand name stores, malls with valet parking, discount
shopping in outlet centers, and fun shopping in neighborhood
shops, galleries, and antique stores.
Filled
with a wealth of attractions and activities, metropolitan
Atlanta offers something for every visitor. Some of Atlanta's
well-known favorites include the
Atlanta
Cyclorama, CNN Studio Tours, Stone Mountain Park, the Martin
Luther King Jr. Historic Site, Six Flags Over Georgia and Zoo
Atlanta. Metropolitan Atlanta museums
highlight the arts, Civil War period, Atlanta and Georgia
history, science and technology, and African-American history.
Recreational activities include train excursions, water and
amusement parks, golfing, tennis, auto racing and more. Sports
fans can cheer on the 1999 National League East Division
Champion Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons NFL football team,
the Atlanta Hawks NBA basketball team or the Atlanta Thrashers
NHL hockey team.

Art
lovers
may study an impressionist
painting or a contemporary sculpture at the High Museum of Art;
enjoy the graceful Atlanta Ballet, the oldest continuously
operating ballet company in the nation; tap their toes to the
music of an Andrew Lloyd Weber production and other Broadway
musicals; or enjoy the Grammy Award-winning
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Atlanta's
neighborhoods display authentic Southern heritage.
Just beyond the striking
skyline and bright lights of Atlanta,
lies rich Southern history and heartland. These in-town
neighborhoods represent Atlanta's heritage and summon visitors
to experience their
uniqueness. Recent renovations to the state's historic and
cultural resources included the restoration of fortifications
from the War of 1812, the Civil War and Cherokee Indian villages
dating back 12,000 years. There is also an abundance of trees,
parks, trails and green spaces that add natural beauty
metropolitan cityscapes.
Atlanta
offers a variety of
attractions and activities to choose from and a warm climate
year-round. We invite you to join us in Atlanta - it's the
place to be for SITE 2004!
