The Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) community recognizes George Siemens, Athabasca University, with this award for his sustained leadership in the field of Educational Technology.
George represents AACE and the international and multi-disciplinary forum behind it, at its best. Without trying to list all his accomplishments, AACE certainly wants to refer to George's pioneering work on the new learning theory 'Connectivism'. His corresponding article 'Connectivism: A Learning Theory for the Digital Age' and website are very well known and are seen by many as must-have reads for most scholars in education.
More recently George organized and led a very popular and well attended series of online seminars entitled Social Media: Trends and Implications for Learning and co-chaired the ED-MEDIA 2010 conference in Toronto.
Scholars as George set the standard for excellence, and AACE looks forward to many years of collaboration.
