World Conference on Educational Multimedia, Hypermedia and Telecommunications (EDMEDIA) 2004 AuthorsAbstractIn an academic setting it is difficult to instruct students in the anatomy of a beef animal. It has generally required that a beef carcass be fabricated into wholesale and retail cuts or dissection of individual muscles. This could only happen in a laboratory and a substantial cost would be incurred for each lab session. Without individual animals the student could progress only at the same rate as the class. The student also would not have the benefit of being able to study away from the lab. Books or manuals can assist somewhat but these are only two-dimensional in nature, making it difficult to understand some of the spatial relationships between muscles. This article introduces how we developed a Web site that tries to address the above issues and will serve as a resource not only for academic instruction but also for related industries.
